The question of the day is:
What type of hooks is best (in your opinion) for live bait presentation for Flathead fishing?

    :confused2:

    #1. J Hook
    #2. Circle Hook
    #3. Kahel Hook

I like circle hooks, but sometimes use kahel hooks. I'm sure at some point this year i'll use a few J hooks as well. To me the circle hooks have a better hook up ratio, but others have better luck on kahels. I think the Commander seems to have better luck on J hooks. I think it it all boils down to what you are comfortable using, but you need to leave your options open to new ideas.

Well. I'll tell ya somethin. You wont catch me using a circle hook. To many of the places I fish, the fish are coming at me when they pick up the bait. They'll never set the hook like they are supposed to. I am loving khaels lately. I'll attach a pick from the other night. This one was a 7/0 khale.

i usually use 8/0 gama octopus circle hooks but over the weekend i used 7/0 sickle hooks and caught several channel cats using live sunnies and liked the fact that i could cross some eyes with them:wink:

    Depending on the bait.

Bluegill or gill size tilapia - Kahles
    goldfish - circles

I prefer the King Kahles in 9/0 for live bait fishing for Flatheads.

J hooks would be my second choice.

The only time I use circles is for cut baits while fishing for big bluecats.

I'm a Kahle fan all the way, I use J's sometimes but 7/0 through 10/0 Kahles are my Favorite. I have tried circles but I just don't trust them and my fishing style doesn't work with them. Just my opinion.

I just got some Sickles and I'm going to use those on my #2 rod this year. I have heard lots of good things about them, the only negative is they ain't cheap !

Bert, I have to say that I prefer Kahle hooks for flatheads. My hook-up ratio has gone way up since I quit using circle hooks on 'em.

I mainly use Gama octopus circle 8/0. Hard to beat. I also use kayle hooks 7/0 - 10/0. The cats have no problem swallowing the bigger hooks and I have better success with the bigger hooks. Why not?

I like 6/0 and 8/0 gamakatsu octopus. 10/0 King Kahle and going to give circle hooks a try this year in 6/0 and 8/0 mainly for channels.
