Looks like a mature adult brown bullhead catfish to me. Flats have a rounded back fin, Channels have a pointy forked rear tail. Big brown bullheads have a rounded forked tail. Compare it to photos of big bullheads other anglers have caught. When in doubt in the future, count the anal rays on the anal fin.

Actually channels and flatheads have hybridized. Look it up.

Not sure where you live. That would help narrow it down. Looks a lot like a white catfish to me, but I'm not super familiar with them in Iowa. Could also be a species of bullhead (and a giant if it is). Tough to tell from just one picture. Either way, cool fish!

To me, the head and tail both say 'channel cat', but the colorization is a bit odd. The mouth doesn't look wide enough for a flatty or bullhead. Was it caught in fairly murky water?

The head and tail say channel, but the color says flathead or bullhead

Pectoral fins look blunt like a flathead too

Channel. Rounded anal fin. Forked tail, not a flat.

If the tooth pad on the lower jaw extended back into the mouth or if you could tell the lower jaw protruded out beyond the upper jaw, those would be dead giveaways for flats.

its a channel cat. Nothing at all special about it. Its not a hybrid and that is super uncommon in the wild. I have no idea why people on this page always think that. Color of the fish isn't all that important either. The fins being rounded isn't all that important either. Flatheads and bullheads don't have a forked tail at all. End of story.
