It is a member of the Herring family found mostly in flowing waters. We caught several at a wing damn on the Mississippi River last weekend. Lot of people catc them around regular dams and power stations. It makes a great cut bait.

Here is one of the skipjacks that my daughter caught today. We catch them below the locks and dams, on spinning gear, 8 lb. test, white curly tail grubs on 1/16 oz. lead heads. Tie two per line, and reel them in about a foot below the surface.

We call it a Tennessee Tarpon, looks and acts like its bigger cousin in the gulf. Great blue cat bait, fo shore.
