Fullstringer & I hit the river Monday night & it wasn't shaping up to be a great evening. I never got a chance to get out and get bait. Andy had a hard time a his clutch spots so we launch the boat with only a couple dozen gills which always makes us nervous. So, we thought we would try to catch some bait on the river before we started the serious fishing. We boated a whole one gill in a little over an hour of fishing. I managed to fall half-way through a log jam, soaked one whole leg and found myself in an uncomfortable predicament straddling a log. Of course fullstringer is laughing his butt off the whole time. Then, to make matters worse the the river was dropping like the stock market...

BUT, we did manage to land 2 flatties. An 18 pound female AND my PB -- 37 lbs 7 oz. It was well worth the trip! Andy will hopefully have some video to view soon.

So how do you tell if its male or female besides a belly full eggs or all scarred up!
Boys have one hole & girls have two. This time of the year its pretty easy to tell b/c the female genitalia is typically swollen...and they're packed full of eggs!

I wish you guys could have all been there to see him go through the log jam. I bout dropped my bait pole in the water and almost fell in after him laughing so hard. I wish I could have had my video camera on me. Here is a pic of my fish that night I know it pales in caparison but I am happy with it. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some video of our night posted on youtube. You guys will enjoy watching that fish whip his but in heavy current. Great job Matt and congrats on the new PB!
