Shad are here. Snapping on pink flies yesterday, all you wanted if you were set up where the shad liked it. Still a couple a weeks away from anywhere and anything will catch fish. After catching all the shad we wanted, we set up for cats and stripers at 5:00 PM. Got run off by rain at 6:00 PM. But,,,,,,in the hour we fished cutbait, we caught an eater every few minutes including a flathead about two pounds. We filled a 40 qt cooler with eaters and gave them away to the bank fisherman by Anncarrow ramp. I kept the flathead. I had never had a flathead before and have been hearing forever from my Lynchburg friends how good they are. I now know. Fillets dredged in flour, then egg, then seasoned corn meal, hard to beat, Could have sworn I was eating walleye from Ontario. Outstanding! A fish Biologist from the state told me a few years ago that bluecats school like sardines and are the only catfish to do that. He said in the spring schools of cats by the thousands and thousands follow the shad up to the fall line. I know in years past it was all the eaters you wanted downtown, impossible to fish more than two rods, ect, ect. Its about to break wide open. Striped ones will be here anyday. Now's the time to do it!
