I've never fished for them there, but I know they're in there. I had one pluck a crappie off of my stringer a couple of years ago, setting on the old dam. We was out there last Saturday, and the water is high, we didn't catch anything.
I haven't caught a flat there but I would think up on the far north end where all the trees are would be a safe bet. I have hammered some giant channels down on the new dam and the old dam.
We went up there last Saturday night and I caught one channel around 5lbs on a small crappie. I think we are going to try around the new dam on the north side and see how it goes. I just haven't fished the lake very much so I don't know anything about the lake.
Right now they are tough on the lake. I fish Wellington quite a bit because it's just South out of my backdoor. It's a good flathead lake with good numbers and good size. I have taken 10 flats out off of there in the last 3 weeks but let me tell ya, it's a stretch right now. Most were taken right before the spawn and it has been very slow since. I keep waiting for them to pick back. It's not my honey hole or anything but it's a good one and is worth a try or two if you've never fished it. Right now fish structure ,riprap and stumps. Saturday night I slip bobbered around the tower and old damn and caught 1 and it was a very slow night. It'll pick up just stay at it.
Friday night we fished and camped on the west side midway in the old lake side next to a cove that was full of tree stumps. The channels kept eating our perch so evidently they weren't big enough hehe. Left saturday because of the rain. I will have to give it another shot in the next week or so.
