Looks like Kansas has a good chance for severe weather today including tornados especially for central Kansas. Are any of you weather spotters? I volunteered this year and will be taking NWS training April 1st.Looks like we may be activated this evening.

We go storm chasin, but dont spot for the media or anything.
Its a blast. 2 years ago we seen a tornado by Rose Hill. The first one I have seen since I was a kid.
Lots of wicked lightning and hail. My car still shows the scars from that trip.:smile2:
Its lookin pretty good out there. They may get it right.
Id be happy if we just have RAIN and thunder. The lightnin and hail can stay somewhere else.:smile2:

Yep Ray, I am a trained weather spotter and amateur storm chaser. This will be my 8th season of chasing.

Either of you take video? I have some from a while back.
I got a new camcorder so this year I hope to get some good footage.
If I do I will post them here.
When you are a weather spotter, do they supply the vehicle?:smile2:

nice to have trained spotters out on the roads I had some freinds killed in June 8th the more trained eyes watching the more warning and less lives lost

I'm a storm spotter too. Been doing it for about 5 years now. I've seen plenty of tornadoes but havn't seen a tornado since I started spotting. In my area most of the volunteer firefighters are trained and we get called out by the county and then we just call in to the county with our radios and they forward it to the nws.

We had some real entertainment around the Ogden/Manhattan area last
night! A real nasty little storm system came through from the SW quarter
carrying small hail and packing wind gusts up to 80 mph. Sat out on the
front porch with a cigar watching this roll in. There was some circulation
in the lower parts of the thunderhead, but I didn't see anything reaching
for the ground personaly. I'd say the hail was about pea sized, sounded
like gravel on the roof. I've got to get that roof patched soon. Had to
set buckets on the floor of the spare bedroom. Spring has sprung!
