Has anyone changed a water pump before? branden say it aint that bad ,what does anyone else think?
I changed the impeller on my 2002 25 merc about a month ago. Impeller cost $22. The shift rod disconnects near the carb. You have to remove the starter to get to it. Disconnect 5 bolts and the foot drops off. There is a washer on the shift rod that will probably fall off. I'm not sure what purpose it serves but be in a clean spot where you can find it. The motor needs to be in forward so the shift rod will connect back up. Took me about 1 1/2 hrs. About 1/2 hr spent on trying to figure out how to disconnect the shift rod.
Piece a cake
If i can change one Robert, anybody can do it. You'll be fine.
I don't know much about the four strokes, but if it is a 2 stroke it should be a piece of cake. My brother has a 2000 25 merc and he can change the impeller in about thirty minutes. I've never done it myself, but he sure makes it look easy.
Geez, just don't trust me do ya?? :smile2:
I trust you ,just like to know everything i can before i pull it apart. Sent off for my water pump kit today got the whole thing ,figured i would replace everything while i was at it.
Google water pump replacement 25 hp Mercury outboard. You can probably
find a step by step maybe with pictures.
I've done several now and if I can do it, believe me, anyone can!!!!
how do u know if u need a waterpump
The engine's over heated and all the plastic parts attached to the power head, have melted in place.
The water stream is weak and hotter than usual, with noticable steam coming off.
You can replace the pump every 2 to 3 yrs, as is recomended and not worry about it.
Download the manual. Sometimes I hit youtube they have some good DIY advice.
