I was just wandering if anyone else fishes the Walnut or Caney river?
I fish the Walnut all the time. From Winfield to Ark City.
I have been wantin to fish the Caney.
where you from? Im in winfield.
I live in Wichita. Grew up fishin the Walnut and Arkansas from here down to Kaw in OK.
cool, you ever catch any big ones in the walnut? The only part of the Caney I know is around Cedar Vale. I cant remember the little town North of Park City but it has a public pond that i used to kill the channels on.
The biggest Ive gotten out of the Walnut was a 24 pound flathead. My Dad caught some 50s.
You ever do any good on the Caney?
Are you talkin about the KDOT ponds?
no, i remember now, its Valley Center. They have a public pond in the park. I tore em up on hotdogs, garlic powder and parmesean cheese. The biggest was a 10lb channel.
I've fished the Walnut for a long time, never fished the Caney though. We've pulled some 60#+ out of it quite a few times, always later in the year. Tied into some nice channels too in the 15lb range.
i fish the walnut alot at the fairgrounds in winfield below the dam catch some flatheads from10-50lbs at night and alot of channels over 5lbs
Ah!! Pigkiller!! Good to see you enjoying the site with a cool avatar photo
and after you have posted ten times they'll start giving you more options
to store personal messages and stuff like that. Anyway, keep logging on
and talking with us. Poke around the site a little, I recommend the Article
Library. Interesting general information and plans for building useful stuff.
Consider comming to the June gathering at Melvern and hanging out with
us Kansas catfishermen. Most of us are sort of easy to get along with.
The crazy ones tend to be more of a danger to themselves and are really
entertaining to watch...I've always had fun anyway. Seeyalater.
Any blues and Flaties in the Walnut?
Thanks for the welcome. I'll definately consider coming up to Melvern. I'm always up for a good time.
thankyou for everyones reply. Im glad i found this web site, alot good people on here. Ill be in touch with you guys. Brent
I like to fish the walnut. I haven't gotten down there yet this year, I've just had so much else to do. Towards the end of last season I started going to Ark City and using that boat ramp. Anybody been down there lately? I think its called Walnut Park. They had the ramp closed alot of the year last year for repaving... does anyone know if they keep it open all year or if its open yet? I'll have to hit it up here in a weekend or two. I wouldn't mind camping down there a few times this year.
If the weather holds up im gonna go to the Tunnel Mill dam in Winfield and fish the deep hole Monday night, but they are predicting bad weather, ill have my fingers crossed. Oh ya its the walnut river.
Its alittle early but the walnut will be picking up soon. My family owns 400 acers on the walnut nw of town on co 18 road. I have been fishing that river my whole life and I can't think of how many big flatty's over 60lbs I have pulled from it plus some 15+ lb channels. I'm hoping to make it down there a couple times this year.
Do you know patrick or darrel fromm? Those are my little cousins.
I wish i had more access to the river, maybe ill put in my Coleman crawdad and get to some good snags and so forth. I dont know hardly anyone in town. Me and my old lady pretty much keep to ourselves. I stay outta trouble that way, lol. My biggest is a #42 flat. Man id love to catch some #50s. take it easy, Brent
When ever I come that way I'll get a hold of Kyle and maybe we can meet up with ya down in Winfield and hit the river.
Sounds good to me. Take it easy, Brent
