Yes, it is true. I caught myfirst blue catfish yesterday. It was all due to the members of the BOC. I went out on wednesday and scouted out a spot on google maps where there is a bend in the river. I found a spot where I could park and then scouted out the bank to make sure it was a practical place to fish. So yesterday after class I grabbed some old shrimp I put out the day before and some live blue gill and headed down to my spot on the ohio. I am there for an hour before I get the first hit. It is my first blue catfish. Caught it on raw unshelled shrimp from Kroger. It was only a 4 lb-er but I will take it. I also caught a small channel cat. Two fish isn't bad....I was happy. But Yeah thanks BOC members for giving me the information I needed for the blue.

Good job man, now if the smaller guys are there, I bet at least at times, the bigger ones will be around. See what happens when you do the right thing,do some homework, do a little scouting and driving around and then the fish gods bless you with a nice reward for your efforts....

    Keep at it....

small blues and channels look alike. However, the one is grey and had no spots on it. The channel was green and had spots. That is the easiest wasy to tell the difference. So yes, this was my first blue catfish.

I thought the 1st one did look a lot like a channel but without seeing the anal fin, is hard to tell and didnt want to burst any bubbles, For now, we will say its a Blue....

I have both channels and Blues in my pond and both were grown from 5" up to about 3-4 lbs now and to be honest, you cant tell them apart coloration wise, only from the anal fin and some of the channels have some spots but once then get bigger, they tend to loose the spots. Next time, get pics of the anal fin. Square = Blue, rounded = channel and even then its hard to tell sometimes.
