I use them alive. I usually use a 7/0 Kahle for flats. Depending on the size of the bait, you may want to go bigger. I like them around 10 inches or so.

I have used catfish meat for bait and just about everything else that swims in the local waters and caught catfish, bass, and even bluegill on them.

I like to eat any midsized bass I catch, do you think the heads would be good as bait?

Rob, I just caught a #9 Flatty on a 7" Smally last Friday. We had big creek chubs, giant gold fish and that one bass. Only that one fish was caught! sure wish I had more good baitthat night. Remember you have to catch bass with a hook and line and you cant have more than the limit for the water you are fishing. Also some waters have a size limit. Good luck!

In some states it is illegal to use a gamefish for bait. Check your state regulations on this before you get caught doing something that will cost you a bundle.
I agree with Peewee, they are nothing more than oversized minnows, LOL!!!

I'd venture to guess it's illegal to use game fish as bait in nearly every state. Like Dreadnaught says, check your local regulations first. It will get real expensive real fast if you find yourself on the wrong side of that rule.

    Ohio regulations

"Fish caught by legal angling methods (such as bluegills caught by hook and line) may be used for bait." (This says such as - not just bluegill)

Remember you have to catch bass with a hook and line and you cant have more than the limit for the water you are fishing. Also some waters have a size limit.

i love to use use 6 to 7 inch large mouth for bait, i think they are deadly for flatties i hook them through the lips and use them on the bottom or under a slip float.
