YOU MUST KNOW *77 I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77 ] It was about1:00pm in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc. Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there were none, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes. I never knew about the *77 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe & quiet place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e. put on your hazard lights) or call < S PAN>like Lauren did.Too bad the cell phone companies don't generally give you this little bit of wonderful information.*Speaking to a service representative at ** Mobility confirmed*77 was a direct link to state trooper info. ]So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *77. Send this to every woman (and person) you know; it may save a life. This applies to ALL 50 states]

thank you for the info...similiar storey one of my friends was pulled over the other day and it was an unmarked car but he pulled over. He was told by the officer that he had a warrent out for his arrest for a "wondering dog violation" and he was going to jail if he did not pay the fine of 120 dollars so he paid the police officer and was given a receipt written out on a receipt pad that was layed out for a rent type recept, at the bottom of the receipt in small print it said rent payed on this date!!!! and of corse it was not signed, but the real scarry thing is it was a real cop! this unmarked car frequently uses the road my parents live on. My friend called the police and there supp. to be figuring this out but i dont even trust real cops anymore im not pulling over till i get to my drive way!!! I mean come on i was at a party and seen a cop piss drunk and drove home, and every body thinks he is the cool cop but if you ask me hes a piece of crap for not being an honest cop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

You are probably right Dayton. Down here in La. we do not have 911 running in all Parishes yet. Last I heard Red River Parish did not have 911 up and working. This system is funded by the Parishes and some feel it is a duplicate service. Of course La. is last in what you want to be first in and first in what you want to be last in. I have never tried to use *77 and used 911 only once. Maybe I'm lucky.

Randall, oops, I was wrong about 911 working everywhere. :embarassed:

I have tried *77 in AR and TX, it doesn't work. According to this site, *77 only works in only 3 states. And 911 works in most but not every state. Everone needs to know the Emergency number for the state they are in.

That forward has been around since 2002 and contains a lie about *77.
It could have been useful information if who ever wrote it had stuck to the facts.

I see the same thing in so many forwards,.... when the truth or real facts would be just as interesting and a heck lot more useful.
