Urban Legend of Flathead catfish swallowing basketball?

    Have you guys seen these pictures of this flatty that gets a basketball stuck in its mouth?

    Yep, as it says on the snopes page, that story is true. It's been posted on here a few times since it happened and amazes people every time. :lol:

    Luckily for the fish, he had a good samaritan help out before he got into too much trouble. But I'll bet he stuck to just eating fish after that experience. :roll_eyes:

    I could spend a whole day sitting around reading Snopes. Amazing what you can find there. I always look for the TRUE ones. Some of them, like the above basketball story, are unexpected.

    On the other hand, my wife HATES Snopes. She's not too big into being proven wrong and I got a bad habit of looking things up she has told me. LOL

    well now i know why i have not had much luck this year i am useing the wrong bait.. I will have to go out and buy some red basketballs hope it changes my luck....:lol: ..good story..and remember keep your lines in the water

    There is no doubt it is true, happened about 2 miles from my house, and next door to a good friend of mine. He called me and I was there when they finally got him out of the water. He was probably about 35lbs, the basketball was a "biddy ball" sized basketball, not full sized. It was a youth league basketball.

    It was quite a site!

    I had no idea that thier mouth would even open anywhere near that big, now I see they have no problem swallowing those huge gills. That fish didn't look 50# though, maybe 35#.
