i haved two 7 ft king kats and don't have any problems, mine are MH action and can toss big baits (5-8 inch) no problem, i have a couple 6'6 ugly sticks but use them for my bass fishing, it seems that the ugly sticks are a little too bendy when it comes to throwin bigger baits, maybe a H action would be fine but then again your gonna pay 40+ bucks for a ugly stick, i'm very happy with the king kat, i've caught a 25#'er on a 6 ft m action king kat and that held up nice too, but the 7 ft'ers are the way to go:wink:

Before you buy take a look at the Team Catfish 3/4 ton rods. you will like what you see.

If you need a 2 piece, the King Kat is the way to go, other than that, my recommendation would be the Ugly Stik Catfish.

i seem to be the minority here.....i have had a couple of king kat rods...and i considered them the biggest piece of fishing junk i ever owned...i would reccomend the ugly stick catfish rod, or better yet the ugly stik big water series...the american premiere are also good rods.

I have never owned, nor will I,a king kat rod. I have seen and played with them. IMHO,they are poorly made junk. They are even worse than the berkley big game rods. I don't like hollow rods, seem too fragile. I have seen people break them trying to break a snag loose. Go for the Ugly Stik Catfish. I have 5 of them and love them. As for strenght,I recently reeled in my new pb with one. 59.66lb blue. No problem at all.

Not only would I rather have an Ugly Stick Catfish rod (the white ones) over a King Kat I'd rather have a basic Ugly Stick over a King Kat. That's just me, but I've got to agree w/ Flathunter 100% on this.

I don't have experience with either of these, but did just order a Salt Striker baitfeeder with a 7' King Kat rod from Cabela's. Since the combo was only $5 more than the reel, if I'm not thrilled with the rod I'll run out and grab an Ugly Cat, and have an extra pole.

    We'll see how this goes...

Better yet are Ugly Stick Tiger Light's.

They cost more than regular Ugly's but are worth it.
