If anyone is in the market for an Ugly Stick Tiger, Academy Sports has them on sale for $39. I'm not affiliated with Academy, I just thought I would pass on a good bargain.
I'm new to the board, so let me know if this against board policy.

I've never used a tiger...How sensitive is the tip for smaller size channels in the 3 to 5lb range?

I haven't used it yet, but I think it would be too much rod for targeting smaller channels. It has a lot of backbone.

All of their rods are on sale. Here's a link to this week's sale flyer. http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=catalog&target=weeklyad&pgNum=13
Their normal price for the Tiger rods is $58.83, so if you look down the chart, it makes the sale price $39.86.

Those are good rods and have alot of backbone and is a good rod for the smaller cats to in the 3 to 5lb range. You just have to watch that rod tip a little harder.

I Would reccomend the meidum action tiger rod for most fishing, for hard core flathead hunting I would go with the Medium heavy..There is alot of difference between the medium and medium heavy in the tip section.

    I've got a Abu6500C4 that needs a rod.

So I am assuming a Med would be better for this?

Medium or Medium Heavy will work great.

I would think the medium for that reel, it could be a channel cat and flathead combo, the tip section on the tiger mediums is about like the white ugly stik catfish rods, but it has alot of power in the but section.

I should have been a little clearer about this sale. I went to the Academy here in town and bought the rod. I don't think they have them listed on their website.
So, if you have an Academy in your area, you'll probably find them mixed in with all of their deep sea rods.

    Yeah, I apologize.
I thought Academy was nationwide, but after looking at their store locations, they only have stores in 10 states. They just came here a few months ago.
