In commercial Halibut fishing, we 'snapped' the Ganion on the Ground line as the line went out of the boat.

I'd do this with my Trot line.
It's a method of having your Wire leaders in a Can and using a 'long line' or bottom Ground line.
The Ground line has an Anchor and a float at either end, or both ends, and you snap your leaders onto the line as it goes out.
This way you have leaders ever 15' or so (whatever) and the Cats cant gobble up two or three hooks.

When pulling your line, you just un-snap the Leaders (Ganione's) and drop the empties into the can for re-baiting and the succesful lines to the bottom of the boat for later attention.

Do any of you know where I'd find those Snaps?

Do you have a better method?

One of our sponsors sells a clip that works great for quickly and easily attaching and detaching the droppers from a trotline. Check out the EZ-Clip.
