Well after the Thanksgiving holidays my trolling motor all of a sudden runs backwards! When I normally plug it to the 12v battery, ( + on +, - on -) and hit forwards, it goes in reverse! When I swap the connections, - on + and + on -, it works like normal, but makes a noise every now and then....not sure if I am just realizing this, but I don't like the sounds of it.

Could it be that I accidentally charged my battery backwards?
Will running the motor with the polarity reversed damage it?
    Thanks.

Stu, yes it sounds like you have charged your battery backwards, but it wont harm the battery or trolling motor. All you have to do is run the battery down and recharge it correctly. Just run your trolling motor until it kills the battery or you can run it down with a spotlight.

Be Careful! I know a guy that charged his battery backwards and it wouldn't start his tractor, so he hooked up jumper cables to his truck and proceeded to blow up his battery!
