Yep trim the fins on your live bait. Why? When a brim or crappie esp gets eaten/hit they expand the dorsal fin sticking the other fish in the mouth of couse that hurts and it also makes them harder to be swallowed. The ol Run & Drop which sucks, I trim ALL the fins to help prevent this. I also trim off the tail fin which slows the baitfish down making it easier to be caught and eaten. I am not sure but even makes them send out a distress sound/signal and attracting other fish to them? Now I do not claim to be Mr. Catfish however the people I have taken fishing with me and doing this from then on when they get on the boat look for the sissors as they have became belivers in this. Anyway try it and I think you will catch more fish.

I agree ,,I've been pinching the tails and fins off for yrs now, with ultimate results..I go a little bit more and scratch off the scales on one side of the dorsel ,up close by the hook for a scent trial.

Welcome to the BOC , I have done this and do believe that trimming the tail sends out more oils of the bait fish . I dont cut it all the way off I just trim about an eighth off the tip of the tail . It does seem to make a difference . I have come to use mostly cut bait anymore unless fishing the river which is hardly ever . Good tip though .

:smile2: That is very good advice. I never thought about the bait fish spreading their fins.
