You may have already heard this on the news....
Saturday 6-28-08, eight soldiers were swimming in the Salt River at West Point. Some of these soldiers were seen jumping or diving from the railroad trestle bridge, which is between the Salt River boat ramp and the mouth of the Ohio River. One of the soldiers surfaced, apparently in distress and was pulled from the river, then STAT flighted to University Hospital in Louisville. A second soldier surfaced, cried out for help, then disappeared under the water. Dive teams searched the river from Saturday afternoon into the evening. They resumed the search at 0800 Sunday morning. The body of the 19 yr old was found Sunday around 1100 under the trestle bridge. This young man was wearing homemade rappeling equipment. Spc Joe Dan Land returned in November from a tour in Iraq.
This is so sad that a young life was lost in such a senseless death.

    BE SAFE

The exuberance of youth has many pitfalls.

    Very sad and tragic story.

Unfortunately our young soldiers returning from combat sometimes take this to the next level. We have all done crazy things that could have ended this way.

Our prayers go out to the family and friends of these soldiers. God Bless

I used to do the same thing from an old train tresle that goes across the rolling fork river. When you are that young the thought of something bad going wrong might cross your mind but just for a second. I was foolish to do things like that along with many others which im pretty sure we are all guility to some degree.
