Went to Flam City this evening and seen a guy in waist waters coming out from behind the parcking lot with a 5 gallon bucket and a dip net.

Knowing there was water drying up over there i yelled to him ANY BAIT!!

He said come look at this , I went over there and he had a 5 gallon bucket half full with shad and baby asians 3 to 8 inches in length. He had been wadeing in mud a foot thick with just a dip net and caught them.

I looked over there and the water was about 6 inches and the bait was still everywhere ,the water was boiling.

He asked me you want them ? Of course i said and thanked him.

Came home and froze them in 8 ziplock baggies according to size.

If anyone dares to wade in 1 foot mudd their is still plenty.

Yes you will have to wade thru the mud to get to the water in the center.

Keep in mind the rules on catching live bait...

You're limited to 150 per day in the aggregate for non-game fish, excluding carp. Asian carp (silver and bighead) can be taken in any number but can only be used as cut or dead bait, never alive.

It's great to find gazillions of baitfish, just don't get yourself in trouble...

Thanks for the post. Reminds me of when the Cumbahee river would flood the banks and then recede. We would have a blast in the holes.

Thanks for the heads up,Manny.Since I can't fish right now(my boat has a leak),I may just run over and set up my freezer with bait for winter.

Never tried freezing Asian carp, but I'd bet that they freeze a lot better than shad.
