My 5 yr. old son Austin and I went to the TN River/Nickajack Lake yesterday for a day of fishin', and what a day it turned out to be. We caught 11 cats, total weight approx. 250 lbs. 2 were over 50 lbs., including my new PB (by a little), an 82 lb. 8 oz. monster. This was probably the best fight a fish has ever gave me. The spinning reel I was using doesn't hold much 40 lb. line, and I was afraid I would get spooled. I thought a striper may have been on it took so much line so fast. It came to the suface downstream and I saw it was a huge cat. I finally got her turned and coming towards the boat. After several dives toward the bottom and probably a little over 20 mins., Austin got the net under the big cats head and I ran back and got it to fold over in the net and drug it over the back of the boat. After we got some help with pics the big girl was released back into the river as usual. Austin also caught his new PB, an 11 lb. blue which he reeled in completely by himself (I just supported the pole a little). Water temps. were about 62 degrees and the prespawn bite is on. We were anchored or tied in current using cut bream for bait. It was a day I won't forget and I'm so glad I got to share it with my son! Good luck fishin' everybody.
