Timing module On 80 model evinrude 70 hp

    Can someone telll me what would happen or happens when your timing module goes bad?

    Your motor will either not run at all, or it will cough, sputter, kick, snort and do all kind of weird things. Timing modules do go out, but not all that common. You can experience similar results if your sync and link is out of adjustment, or you have a ground in a coil wire or plug wire. I'd hate to blame it on timing until I knew for sure. Put a timing light on it and see what happens. AND the very first step in troubleshooting any motor should be a compression test. That will eliminate about 90% of the problems before you even get to them.
