Hey Guys, i have a 35 hp 1979 evinrude motor, well a few weeks ago, my throttle cable broke, so i put a new one on...Well everything is working, except when i push the throttle all the way up and am running wide open, it will slide back a few inches on its own causing the boat to slow down..I have tried tightening down the throttle tension screw, tried to adjust the amount of wire from the cable that i have going into the gear box, messed with the tension thumb screw on the cable back by the engine...Any suggestions or thoughts of why this maybe happening...I really cant think of anything else to try

Matt pull that control box and clean the tension screw real good and most likely you will that it is off center where it tightens up the movement. It needs to be greased periodically in there anyway
