It can go either way, but I have used a 3 way rig the past couple weeks and caught alot of fish that way but Im goin back to the carolina rig, I like it alot better.
I bank fish and much prefer the carolina rig. The 3 way is just too much for me when casting and needing max distance. For me the carolina is much easier and more streamline. I just attach the sinker to the sinker slide with a lighter # mono so when I get snagged the sinker breaks off.

I use both methods when flatheadfishing. If I'm fishing very snaggy bottoms....I will use the 3-way and a light sinker line. If I'm fishing relatively smooth bottoms....I use the carolina rig. It works for me! Also I'll use a float to keep the bait above the snags and since I fish mainly at night , it works well around logs and snaggy areas.:wink:
