I was fishing a jig and pig when I caught this 9 lb 10 oz Common Carp, late this evening. I really thought I had hooked into a huge Smallmouth, the way he fought for the first minute or so. I was beginning to wonder if I would get him landed or not. 3 times he got part way under the boat and I was hoping that I was not going to get my Loomis drop shot rod broken. Twice I thought he was going to get into the trolling motor. A really fun fight. He was released unharmed. But, as soon as I released him I thought, "I should have kept him for cutbait." Since, I had been wanting to try come carp for cutbait for cats anyway. But, alas, I did not think of it. Anyway, I have attached a pic. I did not think to measure him, so can't tell you how long he was. He was a beautiful carp, notice the color on his anal fin, lower part of his tail and in between the lower part of his tail and anal fin. I have never caught one like this before, that had that much color.
