I want to buy a 12 volt trolling motor. I have a brand new 24 volt marine deep cell trolling battery already... would anything bad happen if I ran the 12 volt trolling motor off of that instead of buying another battery?

yeah it will toast that new motor. dont try it.
just buy a another battery or a 24 volt motor instead of the 12 volt .
the battery would be a lot cheaper.

First off, there is no such thing as a dumb question as long as you are serious when you ask a question. These guys are right though, it will fry your trolling motor.

Thanks guys... I kind of figured that it would do something like that. But I thought I'd ask. I got that battery for a trolling motor that I borrowed, ended up not using it so I can take the battery back. But I kept the battery knowing that I'd buy a trolling motor for myself soon. Started looking at motors and the 24 V's are much more expensive and wont be needing that much thrust anyway. 12 V motor is what I'll want, and I'll just have to take back the battery and get the right kind. Thanks again.
