This is the Cannelton dam. I hope the picture gives you a good idea of the area I fish. Remember, I fish from the bank. Its very deep right out in front of where I sit.

2 guys were sucked under and killed right there last summer, so anyone who gets up there in a boat, be careful and dont get too close to the gates. Stay on the safe side of the line! :)

Nice bank spot. Yeah I heard about those guys awhile back. I also heard about some guys crossing the river at night in their boat and got ran over by a barge. They didnt even know the barge was there. Looks like you are set up on the kentucky bank. Do you fish any on the Indiana side where the barges come in and out of the gates? I have a boat and would never go anywhere near those gates. To risky for a fish! A human life is more important than a fish. At least you can go back and fish another day if you are alive.

Yeah I fish on the Indiana side too. The barges come CLOSE to the bank over there. And when they go through, the current goes crazy and youll either get washed into a snag, or your line gets washed all the way in to the bank.
I caught my first flathead there. it weighed about 1 lb lol. But there are some big fish there.

I like the KY side better though, which is why I go over there instead.

Just for the record, it was totally against my will.
We went to catch a few skips and as soon as the boy saw the big stripers in the boils he was WAA, WAA, WAA...I want to catch one of those.
I think he used up about every castable piece of gear in the boat and had a few on but never did land one...W

I fish on the bank, and I know many other people who fish the banks still. There used to be 2 access points, but 1 of them is torn up from the heavy machinery theyre using to make the hydroelectric plant... but the other access road is open. People still camp, fish, and swim down there. Its on the far end of the sandbar... but a lot of people walk along the shore to the dam... Its a heck of a walk, but so far we still fish there with no problems.
