Monday, I went looking for a new place to fish. The Houston area is not know for its small creeks and rivers, leastwise the unpolluted kind. I live near Caney and Peach Creeks, and the E. Fork of the San Jacinto river...within 10 miles. Never fished them, so decided to try the E. Fork. Went downstream about a mile in my kayak...water too low for a conventional boat, and caught five channels in just a couple of hours fishing. None were big, the biggest about 2 lbs, but, except for the smallest, all were keepers. So, lake fishing may get the biggest cats, but when its hot like its been, you can't beat those small streams if fishing in the daytime. Will go back.
