Hey guys, just moved here from the Kansas City area. There was some good catfishing out there and I left on a good note. 3 days before I left, my buddy and I brought in a 40 lb and 32 lb blue and a 15 lb channel. It was good fishing out there in Lake Jacomo.
I would like to fish the Rappahanock since I now live in Quantico, VA. Are there any good spots in the Fredericksburg area? Also, what is the recommended bait for that area?

    Thanks!

Attached is a pic of that 40lb blue my buddy brought in.

Pretty much any area below the City is good. Cut bait is the most popular bait. The river is not as good as it used to be but can still be fun to fish. You should also fish the Potomac between the Wilson Bridge and the 301 Bridge. The Potomac is an up and coming catfish river. Lots of 20 to 40 pound blues. And of course there is the James river, which you also have to try.

Thanks for the info and Ken, the answer is yes.
Where can I bank fish south of Fredericksburg? I looked at the map and the options are pretty slim. Any particular spot?

    Thanks again!

Its a park right in downtown Fredericksburg, I've been meaning to try it out.

If you go south on Route 3, then turn right on Michael Scott Ln past the water treatment plant, there is a public boat ramp as well. I am not sure if there is any shore access here, though.

Tom, have you ever launched from the 301 bridge park area, or do you know if shore launching from here is prohibited? I am tempted to haul my kayak in there someday and paddle upriver a ways along the shore. I'm not sure that my kayaking skills are up to taking on the big river, though!

I don't know, I've never been down that way for fishing.

I`ve fished the rapp. from Port Royal up into Tappahanock and the Saluda area. Really good fishing. We used softshell crab whenever possible.
