The BOC is like a river.

The Brotherhood of Catfisherman is like a river. There are times when there are floods and the current gets mean. There are other times when the river gurgles peacefully along in the sunlight. At night sometimes the water is so still and serene that you can see the ripple caused by a dragonfly lighting on the surface. During the day the wind picks up, sometimes a breeze, other times a gale causing waves and moving things along. On the river sometimes the current gets to where that tree that has always been there topples mightily departing with many waves and a huge splash. Other times the river current may cut a new channel where everything follows leaving the old channel bed empty. In that empty channel new growth and beauty emerge. From a fallen oak springs new life, the family of coon that makes it home, the delicate balance of an ecosystem.

The BOC is like that river to me for although I leave it daily to go to work and raise my family, I always come back. The BOC is a place where I go to relax and enjoy God's bounty just like the river. On the river that bounty is the beauty of the surroundings, the hush that falls upon it as I interrupt the goings on until I too become immersed and the sounds return. On the BOC the bounty is a little more difficult to discern for it was created by man. That beauty is the people itself, the lifeblood of the BOC. The people create a fabric, varied, strong and beautiful, all created in His image, people so resilient and loving, all with a love of catfishing.

Though the currents, the riverbed change, the old river, and the BOC will always be there to come back to with welcoming arms.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world"s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

Very thoughtful post Shawn. The analogy of a river and this ever flowing site with it's surges an eddys, whirlpools and tides is right on the mark. So lets all just float along till we hit a snag, then calmly break off and retie.

Made me think of the following:

    "The River"
    by Garth Brooks

You know a dream is like a river
    Ever changin' as it flows
    And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores...and

    I will sail my vessel
    'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
    These waters are my sky
    I'll never reach my destination
    If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
    'Til the river runs dry

Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
    Has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
    And say you're satisfied
    Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide...yes

    I will sail my vessel
    'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
    These waters are my sky
    I'll never reach my destination
    If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
    'Til the river runs dry

There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all...yes

    I will sail my vessel
    'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
    These waters are my sky
    I'll never reach my destination
    If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
    'Til the river runs dry

Yes, I will sail my vessel
    'Til the river runs dry
    'Til the river runs dry

Shawn, my brother, you have outdone yourself with this one. It's just beautiful, thank you :smile2:. Catgirl is smiling again and enjoying the river of life on the BOC. Tony, your post was great also....."The River" is one of my favorite songs. Thanks to you both, guys.
