If you are interested in catching big crappie you should try a bamboo bed.To build one start with a clean 5 gallon bucket,an 80 pound bag of quickcrete, and 15 to20 stalk's of fresh cut bamboo.Mix the concrete in the bucket and shove the bamboo to the bottom of the bucket.Let the concrete dry over night, then place it in water deep enough to cover the bed by at least 6 feet.I have built these bed's anywhere from 8 feet tall to14 feet tall.I have caught fish off of bed's that were in the water less than a week. The average crappie we catch from these bed's are on average larger fish than we catch from wood structure.

One thing to consider,if you are on a heavily fished lake.Bamboo will show up on a fishfinder a lot better than PVC,if you don't mind sharing.

We usually just toss 4-5 christmas trees in there each january in a centralized spot and each year we change the drop-off point, works wonders.
