For a spinning reel I'd definately have to go for the shimano series reels, but for baitcasting well...I'm not to experienced with them yet to have a valid opinion.

I'm mostly a spinning guy myself. I havent tried everything yet so I can only give what I like and thats the older style TICA Sportera 4007 Baitrunner.

I have had no problems and great casting from My calcutta 400, corsair 400, and Quantum big Iron 420 w level wind. I use them all in the ocean as well as for cats.

Shimano Tekota 600 or my Quantam cabo 20. There both pricy though but well worth it.

I really like the Mitchell Full Runner (FRE600) but I had a problem with three of them this summer. On three of the reels the gears that engage the spool would skip when fighting fish. I lost two good fish because of it.
Just curious if you ever had the same problem?

The one that craps out on me the least. Right now, thats a 6500c3, 5600c4, and two Penn 209's. Forget the 56/6600d5's, they are a load of junk. Not too happy with Shimano Sedona's either.

+3 on the Shimano corsair since i got 3 of them...Tried other baitcasters and my corsairs outperform them hands down.

Spinning? I love my Shimano Baitrunner 6500 (the 4500 is lighter action, but the baitrunner is stiffer which I don't care for).

Baitcasting? I don't have too much experience with them. I have a couple, and the Zebo Rhino is a piece of JUNK.

    "Shimano Baitrunner 6500".

Shimano Baitrunner 6500, and 4500 for me. They have never had problems and are very smooth and reliable.
