Those bottom scavenger blues and channels are no comparison to the Mighty flathead.

Nothing like a fight with a flathead on the other end of your line.

For the excitement of the initial strike, there's nothing like the thunderous strike of a blue. That being said, the flathead's strike is exciting as well, because you never know what's on the other end until he surfaces. 95% of the time I can tell you if the hit is a flathead, just by the way he strikes. As for raw, brute pulling strength, the flathead is unsurpassed in catfish angling quality!!!

I would have to say that I enjoy catching flatheads more than any other of the whiskered critters. There is simply nothing like the vertical fight of a flathead, you just can't get them up and their power is like none other. Those blue cats are certainly more entertaining on the initial strike, however if I could catch flatheads all year long with some consistency I'd probably never fish for blues:big_smile:

I think that a #10 Channel will fight better than a #10 Flathead. I always fish for Flatheads because they are alot bigger.

The excitment for me in flatheads is you never you might have a 50 pound fish on the end. Our channels down here rarely get pass the ten or eleven pound mark unfortunately.

In my opinion Flatheads are by far the smartest and strongest of all Catfish. You better be ready when you hook a big Flathead if not he will exploit a weakness in a second.

in 2005, i thought i was snagged on the Great Miami river in miamisburg but turned out to be the fight on my life. 30lb flathead catfish 39inches long and full of fight. this was on a 8 foot saltwater pole with 30lb trilene big game. wow ten minute fight. biggest fish ever make me a confirmed catfisherman from that point on nut flathead all the way baby rick:smile2:
