John Jamison a catfish angler who won last years fall USCATS TOURNAMENT at Atchison,Kansas thaws his bait in a brine. He says to add 4 tablespoons of "BALL preserving & pickling salt" to about 2 gallons of water.he says the brine helps harden the scales and toughen the fish,he uses "skipjack minnows" and to be sure to keep the fish cold in the thawing process .i'm sure any brand of preserving salt would work. i have never tried but wanted to pass it on for those who freeze bait. The article is in the Jan. 08 issue of in-fisherman mag.
