Narrowed my trip down to the james to some time in march. What hooks and sinkers should I bring with me ? I usaly use 2 to 3 ounce no rolls and 1/0 to 8/0 kale hooks(depends on bait size) in the rivers I fish around here.

If your fishing from a boat bring some 8oz no rolls. 8/0 hooks are in order too. Use big baits.

I was up there in March of this year. It takes a lot of weight in some areas. I think I could have gotten by with egg sinkers, but the 4-6 oz no-rolls we used worked really well. There are some areas where it will take a full 8 oz though, or more. Good Luck on the trip.

On the James I use 8 to 10oz bank or no roll sinkers and 7/0 or 8/0 circle hooks heavy duty musky or cat rods with thirty to fourty lb berkley big game line with a 60 lb leader and baitcaster reels.Mainly use fresh gizzard shad for bait cut in chunks the size of your hand.

I use 10 oz weights where the current is really strong on the James. Sometimes that doesnt seem like it's enough like in the Presquille area on a strong outgoing tide... but 8 oz is usually good everywhere else... 8/0 hooks is what i use as well....

Looks like I'm going to need to go to the tackle shop before my trip.

Don't skimp on the weight or the no-rolls. I did on my first trip and fought to hold bottom all day. Oh yeah, BIG hooks and BIG bait are a must.
