I need to remove the steering wheel on my boat. My console is broken and needs repair before further use. Problem is,it's stuck. I think. I know in some vehicles, you need a puller, but this looks too simple. It's a teleflex set-up. It has some rust on it. I sprayed some penetrating oil on it,still no luck. I can't really pull on it,that would break my console. Please help me.

that steering wheel is held on by what is called a 3/4" taper, screw the nut onto the threads so that the nut and the helm shaft shaft are exactly the same height, while pulling on the steering wheel with one hand SMACK the nut and shaft HARD with a hammer and it will POP loose. be carefull not to loose the 5/8" woodruf key
