I have never been to tanners creek but wanting to go sometime this year. I really wanted to know if the ramp dumps into the creek itself or the ohio river? Also wanted to know if the creek is deep and are there any baitshops there to buy some skippys? Thanks.

the ramp actually lets out in a creek about couple hundred yds. from the river. it is plenty deep, its around 13 to 17 threwout the whole thing. on your way out toward the river stay between the middle of the creek and to the left toward the rocks, there are stumps toward the right bank. never had any problems or know of any but i know when u get to the mouth you need to stay to the left a little also cause it does get pretty shallow to the right. you shouldnt have any problems but for someone who hasnt been out of tanners i figure id let ya know. like i said though ya really dont have much of a problem with low areas unless we have a drought later in the summer but them are the areas to just stay away from just in case. as far as skippies i dont know of any bait shop that does around the area but if you pm me when you are going i have a bunch in the freezer, i could probably spare a couple of bags if im in the area, just to help ya out. their are plenty of shad in tanners also, if you want them bring a cast net you shouldnt have any problems finding them.

You can pick up skippys at Wormie's it's down the road about 10 or 15 minutes past the boat ramp on Rt.50 in Greendale. It's just past the Greendale cinemas, Larosa's, and the fireworks places, sits next to a Vet. It's [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]one mile east of where I-275 & Rt 50 meet.

Yeah, they actually have a pretty wide variety of baits. I remember when I was a rookie catfisherman and I was suckered into going to their pay-lake...won't make that mistake again, but yeah, they got frozen skipjack, shad (cut), shiners, goldfish, shrimp, and I believe they sometimes have squid. I would pay heartily for a bucket of live shad! as I've never used a cast net.

get a cast net and learn how to throw it, its very easy and the shad are loaded in creeks. ive never bought any shad in my life. i know wormy personally but havent talked to him in a while but come to think of it i did see some skiplack in the freezer the last time i was in there. it didnt look to good, it was already chunked up and there were only like 3 or 4 chunks if im not mistaken for a few bucks. but i guess if you want it and cant get it youll pay for it.

Every once in a while there are skips in Tanner's itself .. if your lucky. I still have much better luck with shad in that area though. When I use skips I can't keep the channels off of them but most of the blues I get come on shad. I didn't realize there was a bait shop near there that is good to know!

Man I cant help you much but what I can tell you is that the shad are every where and I would trade a five gallon bucket for 5 nice size skippies any day of the week including christmas. We are having a gathering right down the road in rising sun on the 9th and 10th of July. The fish are on hot and heavy from what I have been TOLD.. I think we are going to try and stay together and drift at least for a time, preferrably Sat morning to early afternoon. In the heat of the day, then come back in for lunch and go back out and do it again. I prob. wont fish much at night. Far safer than trying to do it at night and the bite should be exceptional. As far as I am concerned july is as good as it gets. If you come down that weekend we will have plenty of bait to go around. If not I will go and get more. Saturday night we might have a friendly tour. 1 dollar entry fee winner take all. 1 fish big fish.

You can get whole frozen skipjack, they don't keep 'em in the freezer out front, you've gotta ask for them, but they are pricey. $4. And if someone wants to sell me some shad, I'll gladly pay, as the bait shop charges $2.99 for a little cup of it cut up. I will one day get a castnet, but I'm looking to take the easy way out this weekend.

I wouldnt buy the cut up shad at wormies. I bought some there a long time ago before i had a cas net. it is horrible, not fresh at all! I'll be putting in at Tanners Friday night. I'll be in a Spectrum with a rod rack on the back. If you ever see me down there I would be glad to give you some shad. Once you get a cast net and see how easy it is to get bait on your own you will wish you got one a long time ago. Good luck!

Me, chris and doug are going to hit tanners this weekend but not sure if saturday or sunday yet. Havent ironed out the info with chris and doug yet. I think we are fishing together in chris boat and it should be fun anyways. I plan on taking some pictures and maybe some video while we are there. I will have a few cast nets with us so if we catch plenty of shad I wont mind sharing for anyone that needs some, just depends on how much we can get. Shad is my favorite bait next to a creek chub but having some skippes also just means we have a better bait selection. We like catching channels also but really want some blues or flatheads.

My cell number is still the same and dont worry we dont know how to catch fish either. LOL.
