Well it getting hot out, and shooting often takes a back seat to other things like fishing. But There is one season open in the summer, and squirrels are a good way to keep the skills sharp while waiting for the fall big game season to roll around. I know the young of the year are out and on their own, but figured the adults would still react to a distress call, so that was my game plan. I headed out to my favorite deer spot to give it a try. I get pretty tired of squirrels busting me while waiting for deer, so this would kill two birds at the same time. I got out to the wood about first light. Figured with the heat, early would be the time. I saw one red squirrel pretty quick, and was lucky to make a good shot. after waiting about 15 minutes, I used my call, and had another red come charging in. I pulled back and let fly, but missed. it just kept sitting there, flicking its tail, so I got anther arrow, and thump, got him. I picked up and moved to a new spot and repeated the calling. I had a small grey go by, but it stayed high in the tree tops. I moved again, and got lucky, a nice red came right in, just like early in the morning. after 2 hours, it was warm, and I was ready to go. had a nice morning though.
