Hi everyone...Im from NC but will be driving up to Chicago tomorrow. Ill be there for about 2 1/2 weeks, so there is no way I will be able to go that long without wetting a hook!!! Anyone have any suggestions on places to go near that area? Ill have my car, so I'm willing to drive an hour or two out of the city if need be. I am also willing to go out with a guide if you guys have any suggestions. I've never caught any walleye or pike or muskie, so I think that would be a cool experience...but I have no idea if this is a good time of year or anything. Also don't have any clue on what sort of baits, rigs, etc. to use. Any input/advice would be awesome! Thanks in advance, and give me a holler if any of you guys ever find yourselves down my way!

I dont fish up that way much. The piers are popular along Lake Michigan. A charter boat would probably be best for walleye on it. A search of the DNR site might help with pike and musky up there? Perch etc fishing along the piers can be great this time of year. Any baitshop should be happy to point you in the right direction and give you a few pointers. We're flying out of Chicago Saturday. Good luck. If your interested the Museum of Science and Industry is a great way to spend a day. You have to visit Navy Pier at least once in your life and my wife and kids love it. We fished the Hennepin Canal few years back on our way back from Chicago but I dont remember for certain how far it was. Catfish, carp and panfish are popular in it.

There's a state park just south of chicago near wilmington. It's the desplains fish and wildlife area. The kankakee river runs through it. I've never fished it but, I've always wanted to try. I used to drive by there on a regular basis to go to training in chicago. here's a link. Check it out. DNR
