Has anyone ever used submersible fish lights or floating fish lights for catfish? Because I was thinking of buying some. And one more Question what kind of lights does everyone use to light up there boats at night. Just woundering if the black and fluorescent light work good.

I tried the florescent black light for the boat thinking it would be a good idea. It didn't light up too much and would flicker in a good chop. I returned it to the store. I still prefer a good headlamp and from experience the fish don't care when I turn it on. I find chum works better than a floating light. Tried the light and it just attracted a lot of white perch at night. Good luck hope this helped thats just my experience.

Don't know about catfish , but they work great for crappie , white perch , and even trout , for a light for the boat I have experimented with a few different things even wasted $$$ on a black light . The best thing i have found is to just use headlamps when needed and tape glow sticks to the end of the poles . I have found that sitting in the dark is easier on the eyes .

I pretty much agree with Steve. Headlamps when needed and glowsticks. I like the dark once my eyes get acclimated to it. Plus no lights equals less bugs.

But far as attracting panfish at night. a spotlight over the edge of the boat pointing straight down in the water has worked well over the years for me.. But it draws the bugs, though.

Thanks for the advise, you guys saved me a bunch of $$$ on the black lights. I still might go get a floating light and use it at lake Marburg for panfish. Anyone know if I should get a white light or a green light?

Mike I would get the green one , I have used both with good sucess and i can't say with certainty which one is better , but it seems like the green one puts off less glare atleast and for that reason alone I like the green .

Mike, I'd echo the headlamp, but, here in PA you have to have an anchoring light on at night. I do the same thing on the boat as I do when shore fishing. I've found that a kerosene light doesn't attract near as many bugs as a coleman. You have to use a decent kerosene light though. Not the crappy little things you buy at Walmart. You need a good Dietz hurricane light with a 7/8" wick. It throws enough light to be legal and allows you to move around in the boat. You'll still need the headlamp for rigging but the kerosene is decent and cheaper than feeding propane to a a coleman. Plus like I said, a lot fewer bugs!
