I have heard and also read is some of the scientific research white papers out of NC that striper tubes usually work as good as any standard aerated boat livewell in the Fall, Winter and Spring months, but in the Summer months they don't do a very good job keeping tournament stripers healthy or alive, again, they are about as good as any standard aerated boat livewell. Would appreciate feed-back from fishermen with real hands on experience.

They are too expensive, unatractive, messy and the pump makes a lot of noise in my opinion.

    Thanks

they do keep the fish alive better than just a live well, because it puts the fish in a smaller area and it makes more possible for more water and oxygen to be moved dirrectlley across their gills.home made ones work great put in your livewell where it can be picking up fresh water, ones like that work better than the ones that the nsba were selling that did not have access to fresh water.when the water temp gets into the mid 70s the fish can't release the lactive acid very well and there's no keeping them alive for long.hope this helps

Does water temperature cause the fatal lactic acidosis?

If so, why don't all the stripers in the lake get lactic acidosis and die when the water temperature hits 70 degrees F like they do in striper tubes and livewells?

they build it up in their system while catching them and when the water temp is over 70 they have a hard time releasing it, remember this fish is native to the norheast where they designed for much cooler waters than what is in texas. water temp gets in the mid to high 80s they are strugglin to survive. In tenn. we have several fish kills during drought years when the water got stagnet and the temp spiked real high.hope this helps:confused2:
