I am stuck in the old school that still uses monofilament line. I use a lot of it. I like to buy my line in bulk when it is available. 1/4 to 1 lb spools. Thru the years i have noticed that monofilament will eventually loose it's tensile strength even when stored in inside your home, with one exception. The refridgerator. We have one drawer in the bottom of our refridgerator that is full of line I have had stored for years . I don't know the chemistry behind the breakdown of monofilament , but i do know you can store it in the fridge and it will be as good as the day you bought it. I do ocassionaly have to hear little snipits from the wife but thats the breaks. She has learned that my time fishing directly affects my attitude so she excepts the loss of crisper space. It works for me . Try it you'll like it.
