In your opinion, what is the best time of year to catch big blues?

    April - June (Spring)
    July - September (Summer)
    October - December (Fall)
    Jan. - March (Winter)

I voted spring and winter, have caught some monsters in both seasons. Seems like they slow down a bit in the heat and post spawn, pick up again in the fall but winter is great as well as spring. Chris

A lot of folks say Winter but I have never seen much catchin' posted up for Winter Blues on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers in our neck of the woods.

    Skipeye,
I agree, it seems strange that most choose winter, but I don't see many posts regarding trips on the Mississippi or Missouri on here?

I know March - May is excellent! But I am questioning December thru March, as I don't see anyone posting up, or boats on the rivers.

My favorite time is APRIL-MAY-JUNE or whenever I can start to net shad and catch skipjack. I sure hope bait is easier to come by next year than it was this year. Maybe the Asian carp will start to move out around here.

That's because people are out there fishing and not on their computers. Now is the time to catch the monster of a lifetime...the colder the better. Now go get 'em!

Does it get that cold in VA?

Because you don't see boats or fish reports very often in the middle of winter here.

I have not fished winter for blues before but this year I am trying. I have been going to the spots I fished in the summer and can't buy a bite. I got good bait and the river is back down but no bite? :confused2: the winter bite is SO good it must be off a boat with a fish finder? :confused2: I don't know how to figure things out. I am running up and down the bank and not one catfish in over a month.
