I have a 1982 Barretta inboard that when I turn the key, all I hear is a click. I think that it is the secondary solonoid that is bad, but I am not sure. There is a solonoid on the starter itself and one that is not on the starter. Is there a quick way to tell which one is bad? I do not have any electric testers.

You will need a tester I would clean all the connections first though Especially if you have those add on cable terminald that have the strap with the two bolts that hold it down on the cable.

Volt test ya batterys then check all connections for corrosion. Then if ya check out it might be starter replacement time.
