not sure why the gar and turtles are bitting hard tho could be the moon or the storm front blowing around out there as in the tropical storm changing presure levels who knows for sure .
even if i don't catch a cat it's still nice to be out there trying and relaxing.
might wanna find the deep pockets and try there or mix up the baits or go with fresh shad if you can find them.

also the mullet are in and i have yet to try them as cut bait any one know if mullet works as cut bait for cats?

I always use fresh mullet but they do not seem to favor that over anything else. We are going out this morning and will try every bait (bream, shad, mullet, shrimp, shiners) whatever they hit first usually will be the top bait for the day.

My buddy swears by this he puts mullet in a ziplock bag in the sun all day and uses it.he catches fish just not any monsters but that shit sure stinks.

Also during the American shad run in the winter I stock the freezer with them to use for bait most of them are 3 to 4 lbs so they will last a while as cut bait.

Well headed out will post pics if we get any monsters

When I make some I will give you some it's to damn hot to fire up the lead pot right now.
I do it in a outside shed and when it's 100 outside i sweat my ass off and cant have it dripping in that hot pot.
As for using on a fly rod it's to heavy I use a light to medium spinning with 20 lb power pro and it works great. The reason for the heavier line is I do catch stripers during the shad run in the winter. Nothing big so far only up to 11 lbs.

Once I make them I will let you know. As for american shad they start around jan and stay maybe through march. Shad for bait is ok around here but I don't have a favorite bait for the St john's. I have used it all and still catch nice channels.
When its not so hot we do alot of hog hunting and use the scraps for bait (liver, heart, kidneys) they usually work pretty good.

cool man ty again , also i have noticed the same thing about them not being picky or having a prefered bait , i first started using frozen shinners and the cats were loving them , then i listened to matt77 and started using blue gills and have same results if the cats are in the area they will eat either one, just no luck with liver or hot dogs lol or maybe your catching them all befor we get there HAHAHAH gl
