Since it is about the same distance to both lakes for me, I decided to ask the same question about the Lower Lake that I just asked for the Upper Lake: I have fished around Short Stay in the late Fall and Winter, but never have fished it in the Spring. I usually use the Bonneau Beach Public Landing. Where is the best Spring time bite for this area? Russeville Flats? East Dike? What time does it start and how long does it last? Techniques, bait, and tackle? Also, Can you fish in the "upper" end of the rediversion canal (as you enter it from the Lake)? If so, when are some good times of the year to fish this area? Thanks for your help.
I recommend fishing Russellville in the spring March 15-April 15 ANCHORED with big tackle and use both live perch and big cut river herring if available.Gizzard shad also work great then cut. No bait is to big then.
Penn, Thanks for replies to both of my posts. Big River Shad - What kind of shad is this? The large shad that make their annual run up the tail race and re-diversion canals? Also, can you fish the "lake side" entrance of the re-diversion canal and is this location any good for fishing? Thanks again.
