Ive always used no roll or egg sinkers, but this year in a few places im going to try some spoon sinkers. My question is which side is the top?or which side points torward the rod tip?Is it the flat side or the rounded side?

I was always taught to put the round side facing the reel and the flat facing the bait, but that is just my opinion. Could be wrong. Don't know that it really matters.

Stickthrower has it right. The thinner side brings the sinker onto a planing position when you retrieve your line,so it tends to rise over obstructions.
Best hint I can give you is use the longest rod you can to work with the spoon sinker to raise it to the surface faster.
