Just found out that Splash the former world record blue cat, died Dec. 6th at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center where she has been living since being caught in Jan 2004. They are making a lifesize replica of her, it and her skeleton will be on display at the center.

thats a shame. :-( well just means the next person to catch the world record will need to do their part to keep it alive to get it verified and succede her. Guess that should go for most species anyway.

I heard that the new record blue was only 25 years old. At least thats what the IDNR stated. They also siad that the clean water act has improved the water conditions so much that fish are growing much faster than before. Due to the large #s of bait fish. Has anyone else heard this.

i really dont know if putting that fish in a tank was a good ideal to start with. i know alot of people like to go and see the fish and it was taken care of real well there but i would have rather seen that fish put back in the lake and let mother nature take her coarse. that fish could have spread alot of good genes in the lake. i would like to catch a new world record too but i dont think i would kill the fish just to have my name on some piece of paper. alot of state record fish die because of this. most livewells are not big enough to handle a fish of this size. with all the digital cameras out today a picture is good enough for me. does anyone know if the fish layed eggs in the tank or if they would even hatch in a tank like this?

Im not argueing with ya but, the the genes were spread. The reason she was taken to Athen was becuase it is one of Texas' fish hatcheries. They used her genes in there stock. Or that was the plan, not sure if she ever did breed though.
