Since I'm a member of this board and there are a whole heckuva lot more fisherman out there that have more knowledge about catfishing, I have a few questions to ask.

Number one, how long do catfish spawn?

And number two, do all breeds of catfish spawn at the same time (speaking of the most common breeds: blues, flats, channels, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any answers you can supply!

No all breeds dont spawn at the same time and not even the same breeds spawn at the same time but enough will spawn to make the fishing slow for big fish.Flatheads usually spawn a little before channels and blues. As far as how long, its usually from full moon to full moon when the water temp is right so about a month. They are all through spawning in SC now.

    GREAT QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!

"Number one, how long do catfish spawn?
The entire process takes 5-10 days depending on the water temp and with each fish being a little different this can span several weeks.

"do all breeds of catfish spawn at the same time (speaking of the most common breeds: blues, flats, channels, etc.)?"

No. Blues are generally the first to spawn when the water reaches around 70-75 degrees. Channels are next in the 75-80 degree range, and flatheads are around the same 75-80 degree range. The fry hatch in 5-10 days depending on water temperature.

Obviously there are temperature variations depending on the latitude and on the climate conditions for that particular area and year. You can generally tell the spawn has started when the bite begins to dramtically drop off.
