got out with an old pal last night on a small river and boy was it quiet...

we fished a deeper run (this time of the year over 4' is deep on this river..) and also some wood cover right next to several feet of water...

My buddy got one good pick-up on a sunfish and boated a small flathead, only several pounds, nice little fish.

then nothing.. nothing... nothing for a couple hours.

Later, as the moon was moving out of sight we got a few more pick-ups but neither were landed.

One was on his rod, fish grabbed the bait which was in shallow water and went right towards the middle..figure maybe nice channel cat.

I didn't see a hit in 1-2 feet of water, very tight to cover, and all of the sudden there was a thrashing and splashing... and start fighting the fish and a second later he pops off, when I didn't get a good hookset. Maybe small flat or channel cat....

we were on some nice spots, got to figure the fish are spawning and have other activities on their mind. Probably should have fished more tight to cover all night.
